F.A.Q.

Here are answers to my most frequently asked questions. As always, please feel free to email me [hi@heatherespana.com] if you have a question that is not answered here! I will respond within three business days.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

I usually just say I’m in Portland, Oregon, because most people know where that is. In reality, though, I live a little ways away, in Newberg! I frequently drive to Portland [and elsewhere] for sessions.

DO YOU HAVE A STUDIO?

No. I work on location, and almost entirely with natural light.

HOW MUCH DO SESSIONS COST, AND WHEN IS PAYMENT DUE?

You can click HERE to view the pricing page. Payment can be made in installments after the initial deposit, with the full balance due two weeks before your session dates.

WHAT IF IT RAINS? ARE SESSIONS ABLE TO BE RESCHEDULED?

Yes! Rain happens sometimes. Well, a lot in Oregon. A little rain can actually be really beautiful and fun for a session, but a downpour could be hazardous to your health and the health of my gear! If it’s really too nasty to work, we will absolutely reschedule for the closest available date.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY SESSION?

After booking a session, I am happy to help you go over this in more detail. However, the short answer is this: wear what makes you feel comfortable/beautiful/handsome/superhero-like! Stick to colors and patterns that you love and feel good in.

WHERE WILL MY SESSION BE HELD?

We will go over this in detail to determine the best location for your session. Light is the most important factor in choosing a site, and you are the most important part of your photos. So, wherever we can get you in some scrumptious light, we’ll be good to go.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY IMAGES?

I allow up to three weeks to deliver your images. Sometimes it takes less time, but never longer.

HOW DO I ORDER PRINTS FROM MY SESSION?

It’s easy! Just click HERE to visit the shop, click on your gallery, and shop away.

CAN I PRINT PHOTOS FROM MY DIGITAL NEGATIVES MYSELF?

You can! All my sessions include high-resolution digital negatives for download. It’s important to keep in mind that all print labs are different, and each will produce different results. Before you invest in getting all your images printed, it’s a good idea to do a test photo and make sure you are happy with the quality before you print the rest.

HOW DOES COPYRIGHT AFFECT WHAT I CAN DO WITH MY IMAGES?

You will receive a PDF document that gives you my written permission to print your images with your lab of choice. If you use your pictures online, it’s standard practice to credit your photographer and provide a website link. You are permitted to crop your images as needed. Using filters, photoshop, or other editing programs to alter the color, tone, and style of your images is not permitted.

DO YOU STILL PHOTOGRAPH WEDDINGS?

I do not offer wedding photography at this time. I do offer engagement and bridal sessions.

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH REUNIONS OR OTHER LARGE EVENTS?

My focus is on individuals, couples, small families, and seniors. I do not photograph large events.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?

I started taking pictures at  a very young age. I always loved it, but I didn’t think about it as a full-time career option until my early twenties. Around that time, I got a job working as an apprentice for a professional photographer, and I fell completely in love with the business of photography. I found I am never happier than I am when I’m connecting with people and making art from their lives. I apprenticed for three years, slowly building up my own business on the side, until I could take it full time. I continue to learn and push myself every day. This is my dream job!
